Who can get access to the Library services?

Can guest users, visiting students, or students who start studying in the forthcoming academic year, borrow physical books and get access to the library's electronic resources?

Answer

To be able to borrow the physical books, the person should be in the library system with the relevant status. The Library gets the user data from HR, and our system reflects the list of users and their statuses in HR.  If the person is not in the system -  (for example, the students who start in October, are still not in the system), they cannot borrow a physical book.

There are also some statuses in HR and, consequently, in the Library system, that, although the person appears in the system, do not allow him/her to borrow the book. One of the main criteria to attribute a specific status is the answer to the question: Will this person have to sign a clearance form when he leaves the Institute or not? The guest users and also,  in most cases, visiting students won't need to sign a clearance form, so their status does not allow us to lend the books to them. For those cases we have the Request circulation privileges form on the Library HP. If the budget owner signs this obligation to compensate the library in case the books are not returned, the person with one of those statuses can borrow the physical books.

Online access to the Library electronic resources is a different case. While on campus, everyone, including guests or visiting students, can get access to the resources purchased by the Library. For remote access - a service provided by the Library - the person needs to have the Weizmann global username and password. As soon as the student has the Weizmann credentials, she/he can access the electronic resources also off campus.
