How to find the most cited papers from journal X in the last 5 years

journal and paper metrics are needed for SAAC

Answer

There are a few ways to get the results. The most straightforward one is to use one of the databases the Library is subscribed to: Web of Science or Scopus.

1. Web of Science (WoS)

  1. Use Advanced search:

  • Field: Publication Name = “Journal X”

Apply filters:

  • Year: last 5 years (e.g., 2021–2026)

Once you have the result set:

  • Click“Sort by → Citations (highest first)”

This gives you exactly the most cited papers in that journal and timeframe.

2. Scopus  — very similar workflow

Also highly reliable, sometimes with broader coverage.

  1. Use Document Search

  2. Filter:

  • Source title = Journal X

  • Years = last 5 years

Then:

  • Sort by“Cited by (highest)
