How to evaluate the author's impact via Web of Science?
We need to analyze the productivity of the author (including times cited, h-index etc.) by getting a citation report from WoS.
Answer
First of all, we suggest you use the Library link to WoS, which will allow you to access the database also off campus:
https://www-webofscience-com.ezproxy.weizmann.ac.il/wos/woscc/basic-search
Another recommendation is, when you open the link, to register with your own email – you can use WoS without registration since the Library purchases a subscription, but the registration and signing in every time you use the database give you more options, such as saving your searches, creating marked list etc.
Here is the workflow to analyze the productivity of the author:
- Select “Researchers” tab
- Type the surname and first name (or better, the first initial) of the researcher
- Select the correct researcher from the list (usually, according to the first name + affiliation). If there is more than one relevant record, select all of them and click the “View as combined record” button.
- You will see metrics on the right side of the screen:
number of publications
number of times cited
h-index - A click on the number of publications will lead to the list of all these publications. From this screen you can also generate a citation report that allows you to see times cited for each of the articles, to export the list to Excel and sort from most cited to the least cited.
A short Zoom session (5-10 min) with a librarian can be very helpful - please get in touch with us if you need one.
