Journal titles not abbreviated correctly in Endnote

Answer

If you need to abbreviate Journal titles in Endnote, please check:

1) That you chose the correct style you need.

2) That in the "Edit Style" section that it is indeed edited to show journal titles' abbreviations.

If abbreviation is still not working on all or some journal titles:

3) Go to the full display of one problematic article in Endnote and check if the journal title appears in red. If it does, than it probably was not properly imported into Endnote.

4) In this case, you will need to manually retype the correct journal title in endnote untill it will not appear in red anymore.

Why is this happening?

Improper importing to Endnote usually happens when you import from Google Scholar.

Google Scholar sometimes add commas or replaces "and" with "&" in the journal titles, hence making it unrecognizable to the Endnote index.

How to avoid this?

Try, as much as you can, to avoid importing from Google scholar. Try to import from more organized databases such as WOS or Scopus.

If you do import from Google Scholar, immediately check, for each item, if it was properly imported and has no red fields in Endnote.
